Each pair is a luxury product and a cheaper one matched by hand on the ingredient list, the finish or the job it does, where the cheaper one is sold by Amazon or the brand's own store (how we choose). Prices are Amazon's buy-box prices for a new item, read every eight hours, or the retail price we checked by hand where Amazon has none. A saving is worked out per millilitre or gram, counting a gram as a millilitre, and only where both sizes are known: the 8 pairs without one are left out of every median. The figures move with Amazon's prices at each update.
