Built on the same base and worn the same three ways, alone, under foundation or mixed into it: water and hydrogenated didecene lead both labels, held by the same emulsifier, cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 dimethicone, with squalane, glycerin, isoamyl laurate and hydrogenated styrene/isoprene copolymer in both.
What it does worse: The glow comes from less pearl: synthetic mica tenth on e.l.f.'s label, against mica third on Flawless Filter's. In A Woman's Confidence's side-by-side test Halo Glow was the thicker of the two, a little warmer, gave a bit more coverage and less shine, and dulled over eight hours where Flawless Filter didn't. Wirecutter's three-week test on dry skin found the opposite on wear: Flawless Filter faded to a cakey, oily look by evening unless set with powder, while Halo Glow's medium, buildable coverage lasted the day, and the cosmetic chemist Wirecutter asked called the two formulas impressively close on paper.

Built the same way: water, then a hydrocarbon oil (hydrogenated polydecene, a longer-chain relative of Flawless Filter's hydrogenated didecene) held by the same emulsifier, cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 dimethicone, with mica and bismuth oxychloride for the glow and squalane, glycerin and hydrogenated styrene/isoprene copolymer in both lists.
What it does worse: It carries more bismuth oxychloride, sixth on its label against near the end of Flawless Filter's, and adds ethylhexyl palmitate. Worn the same ways, in 12 shades to Flawless Filter's 12.
