The luxury original: Kérastase Elixir Ultime L'Huile Originale, $64

What matches: Both are water-free hair oils in which a fast-evaporating carrier leaves dimethiconol on the hair, blended with plant oils: argan, marula and camellia are in both (wild Camellia oleifera in Kérastase, Camellia japonica in Mise En Scène), with caprylic/capric triglyceride, and both are sold as heat protectants.

What it does worse: Kérastase carries its silicones in isododecane, while Mise En Scène uses cyclopentasiloxane and disiloxane and swaps the corn germ, pracaxi and camelina oils for jojoba, coconut, apricot kernel and olive.
