The luxury original: Kiehl's Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gentle Toner, $26

What matches: The same humectant toner: water, glycerin and propanediol in the top three of both, with hyaluronic acid and a carbomer, and no alcohol or fragrance in either.

What it does worse: CeraVe adds three ceramides, cholesterol and niacinamide in PEG solubilizers and is sold for dry skin; Kiehl's has propylene glycol, an acrylates gel, imperata root and a ferment and is sold for oily skin, though neither has an oil-control active.
