The luxury original: Redken Color Extend Magnetics Shampoo, $31

What matches: One base, both from L'Oréal: the first nine ingredients match in order, the mild sulfate-free blend of coco-betaine, disodium laureth sulfosuccinate, sodium cocoyl isethionate, sodium lauryl sulfoacetate and sodium lauroyl sarcosinate with glycol distearate, salt and decyl glucoside, and 30 of the 35 on L'Oréal's label are on Redken's.

What it does worse: Redken adds arginine, serine, glutamic acid and soy protein, the amino acids it credits with sealing color in, where L'Oréal adds marula and rosemary oils.
